(Exodus 20:12)
“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

Where are your parents on your gratitude list? Nowhere near the top? Big mistake! Your present status in the society notwithstanding, your parents played a vital role in your rise to the top. If they had held back at the time they sponsored your education or catered for your needs in your growing up days, where would the present success you have come from?

Our text today is a promise from God which comes with a condition – honour your parents and you can be assured of longevity. Notice that God did not say, honour your father and your mother IF they have a warm personality. In other words, not even their character is enough excuse to dishonour or abandon them.

Honouring your parents starts with appreciating them for all their labour over you. If you do not have biological parents anymore, you can extend this honour to your guardian, or persons who have watched over you or cared for you. Through a surprise visit, an unexpected gift or just the constant supply for their needs, show gratitude to your parents today, that your days may be long upon the earth. Amen.

🙏🏽We are praying for more missionaries to the less-reached sections of the nation.
